This image contains a letter to potential constituents with the following text: Dear Neighbor,My name is Roy Houseman. I live on Phillips Street and am running to be your representative onMissoula’s City Council. Our ward, Ward 2, extends from the Westside near downtown to EastMullan and up Grant Creek. It is a diverse and dynamic ward, comprising communities that havebeen in Missoula for over a century and brand new additions to Missoula as well. We in Ward 2 livein the heart of growth and change within Missoula.Missoula is a dynamic city with many small-town charms and wonderful natural resources.Questions about how to stay vibrant and still preserve the integrity of our neighborhoods andthe valley we all live in need to be addressed with cooperation, creativity and openness by ourcity council. I am running to bring this attitude to the deliberations and policymaking of our localgovernment.I’ve worked hard to make a living in Missoula ever since I came here from Great Falls for college. While at the University of Montana, I attended classes, held odd jobs and during the summerstraveled to Alaska working in the wild salmon processing all to help pay for school. After graduatingI worked at a youth home in Missoula helping those less fortunate than us before starting work inthe wood-products industry at Smurfi t-Stone. In 2007, not only was I married to my wonderful wifeAndrea, I was honored by my union by being elected president for United Steelworkers Local 885.My experience of working hard for a living while trying to provide for my family has pushed me intopublic service, to make living in Missoula a little better for everyone. For the next few months, I will be knocking doors and speaking with as many neighbors in thecommunity as possible, getting your thoughts on the best way to move Missoula forward andsharing how my values will shape my actions if you elect me.Each resident of Ward 2 has a stake in the decisions that city council makes and so I ask you toparticipate in the 2009 city elections. Election Day is November 3rd but your ballot will be arrivingby mail about two weeks before then. Please contact me directly with your questions, speak withyour neighbors about what’s important to Missoula’s future and cast your vote for civility anddignity I’ll bring to representing Ward 2.For all of us,Roy Houseman Jr.Paid for by Houseman for City Council LaNette Diaz, Treasurer, 927 Phillips Street, Missoula, MT 59802406.544.4940, roy.houseman@gmail.com
